About Joyce…
There I was, driving home from work (as a nursing in-service instructor) on a Friday afternoon when I noticed a HUGE “Retirement Sale” sign in the window of my favorite store — The Village Crossing in New Hartford.
I turned around and went back to “find out the scoop” which I had obviously missed. I shopped there for what I thought was the last time, chatted with owners and then went to meet my husband for dinner out. I talked incessantly about my favorite store closing. In his desperation to quiet me down, he said, “Did you ever think about buying it?”. He stopped me dead in my tracks! But the wheels were turning.
So, the next day I had my first conversation about the purchase of the store with the owners. The biggest obstacle – their store space was already rented out. After a thorough search of New Hartford nothing appropriate had turned up. My next thought was Clinton and amazingly there was a space available on West Park Row. We found our spot! After lots of cleaning, painting and hard work our space was ready. After a crash course in retail and help from the previous owners, the new “Village Crossing on the Green” was born!
What a change – after 30 years of nursing, I’m running my own store and loving it! And now, we are on to a new chapter in life…
